Our Commitment

The Madison Metropolitan School District is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We continually work to improve the user experience for everyone and apply the relevant accessibility standards.

Conformance Status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA.

The MMSD Volunteer Management System is built to WCAG 2.2 Level AA and Section 508 — exceeding the WCAG 2.0 conformance RFB #4161 §3.5 asks for. A VPAT 2.5 (WCAG 2.2 AA) is available for MMSD Legal Services review. The interface supports keyboard-only navigation throughout and is tested against JAWS, NVDA, and VoiceOver.

Accessibility Features

Our system includes the following accessibility features:

• Keyboard Navigation: All functionality is accessible via keyboard for users who cannot use a mouse
• Screen Reader Compatibility: The site is designed to work with popular screen readers including JAWS, NVDA, and VoiceOver
• Alternative Text: Images include descriptive alt text for screen reader users
• Color Contrast: Text and interactive elements meet WCAG AA contrast requirements
• Resizable Text: Text can be resized up to 200% without loss of content or functionality
• Focus Indicators: Visible focus indicators help keyboard users navigate the interface
• Form Labels: All form fields have associated labels for screen reader users
• Error Identification: Form errors are clearly identified and described in text
• Skip Links: Skip navigation links allow users to bypass repetitive content
• Consistent Navigation: Navigation is consistent throughout the site

Known Limitations

• Some complex data visualizations may require alternative formats
