Our History
The Madison Metropolitan School District Volunteer Program began in 1972 with a small group of dedicated community members who wanted to support students at Hamilton. What started as weekend tutoring efforts has grown into one of the largest school-district volunteer programs in Wisconsin.
Today, our volunteers contribute 4,312 hours a year across MMSD's 52 schools and district sites. From academic tutoring and family engagement to educational programs and special events, volunteers are essential to everything we do.
In 2024, we launched this new Volunteer Management System to better serve our growing community of volunteers with streamlined registration, hour tracking, and communication tools.
